Working Together

Interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) occurs “when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families and communities to deliver the highest quality of care” (WHO, 2010). The delivery of enhanced healthcare services and improved patient outcomes are explicitly linked with interprofessional health care teams.  To achieve the Quadruple Aim of improving the health of the population, improving the patient experience, reducing costs, and improving the work life of health care providers, these interprofessional teams need to consist of team members who have been trained to practice collaboratively.

T3 Interprofessional Team Development Program provides training to busy healthcare professionals

T3 Logo In 2015, our Center was chosen as one of three national sites to host the T3 Train the Trainer Interprofessional Team Development Program. This nationally-recognized program addresses the growing need for training health professionals-- faculty, clinicians, and staff-- to lead interprofessional education (IPE) efforts and promote team-based care. Theory bursts and practical, experiential learning activities are provided to train participants to develop, implement, and assess IPE activities and promote collaborative team-based care. CME/CE credits are provided.

What You’ll Learn- T3 combines theory, experiential learning, simulations, skill-building and project development to:

  • Apply the science of collaboration to real-world patient care.
  • Employ teamwork principles to improve efficiency and quality of care delivery and reduce error.
  • Design, implement, and assess team-based approaches to complex health conditions that address health disparities and improve patient outcomes.
  • Develop effective and engaging interprofessional education and team-based care training activities.
  • Utilize team leadership and communication skills to support team-based care.
  • Work with other healthcare professionals to promote and maintain mutual respect and shared values.

Who Benefits- Effective teamwork improves patient outcomes and staff engagement, reduces medical errors, and supports important quality and safety initiatives. Academic, clinical, and community healthcare professionals are encouraged to attend this comprehensive training.

"I've been teaching in a variety of forums during the past 10 years and consider myself an IP team member. Yet I didn't know until now what I've been missing. I'm filling my toolbox with IPE planning, teaching and learning concepts. Phenomenal course! Should be required for all healthcare faculty."
